Dr. Gomez’s clinical background includes cruise ship medicine, emergency care, remote medical leadership, and international aeromedical transport. This experience informs his evaluation of the decisions made when a patient becomes ill or is injured at sea.

He has served in Medical Officer and Senior Medical Officer roles, caring for passengers and crew and managing emergencies, clinical handovers, and medical evacuations. His shipboard experience includes Royal Caribbean Group, VIKAND Solutions, and The Apollo Group.

A focused independent practice

Through VGA Global Access LLC, Dr. Gomez provides shipboard medical care expert witness services for attorneys. His role is to assess the evidence, explain the medical issues, and provide independently reasoned opinions.

Dr. Gomez has served as a consulting and testifying medical expert in maritime matters for U.S. law firms, including the preparation of expert reports and participation in depositions involving shipboard medical care.

His reviews distinguish contemporaneous documentation from later accounts and assess clinical decisions in the context of the information and resources reasonably available at the time.
